Wisconsin, The State that Caught Erdnase.

Finding a random magic site, I was looking through "Articles by Magician." Since I'm reading "Magician and the Cardsharp" with numerous refrences to Erdnase, I took a look at this article.

This is fairly recent research on the identity of Erdnase, and it took place in Wisconsin.

Now, excuse me, I need to go collect some debts....

Teller Teller

On one of the magic blogs, or news sites, it posted a link to an article from a news paper. Sorry thats a little vague, but I don't remember the site, nor the paper, however the site had a picture of Penn and Teller, with a caption that read something to the effect of "Penn Jillette and partner Joe Teller work on a new trick"

The magic blog had the headline "Teller's first name revealed"

whoopdy doo.

I have 2 problems with this...first off, its wrong...

Check out Teller's bio on IMDB
His birthname is Raymond. Joe, is his father's name.

Secondly, it says, Teller legally changed his name to...Teller, and his driver's license and passport both only say "Teller"

So what is Teller's first name?

Teller.

Self Levitations

Just when you thought the self levitation phase has died, out comes 2 (almost 3) new ones!

First off, the Icarus Effect. This little beauty will set you back $300 dollars...and I know that creators put super high prices on things just so the curious don't by the eBook for $9.95. Just about every online store has a video of it being performed, on the street. After a few viewings, you get a general idea of how the trick is done. The negative side, you need a balancing point. Whether it be a broom (?) or a spectators hand, this to me, subtracts from the magic aspect, and goes more towards stunt. "Watch me lift myself with little pressure." Also, most true magicians are past the "do magic for strangers on the street" phase. but this seems to be the only place you can do the trick. It wouldn't work on stage. Worth $300? To some people, yes... not to me.

on to the Criss Angel Levitation...

At only $100, its a steal compared to the Icarus...and its completely dif-oh wait, its the same thing. I have seen clips from the show, Mind Freak, of Criss levitating. All I can say is, if he doesn't teach how to levitate like he did in the show, then its a complete rip off...some of the levitations are just a little too good....so people are going to be lead to believe that's what they're getting...and that simply can't be done.

The only difference I saw, was Criss, took the same principle, as the Icaraus, and did it backwards. I don't know which came first, and it doesn't matter, all levtations are based on the same thing, so variations have been around forever.

And the proposed "Aliun" self leviation...

I got this off other blogs, so I've never heard of it before, but apparently the safety of the performer was in jeopardy, but from the demo vid, its looked really stiff, and unnatural.

What's the best self levitation?

Balducci, King, Icarus, Angel, Pocket, Zero Gravity?
They all have their drawbacks..but for pure impromptu, with out waving your jacket around, just stick with the Balducci, its cheap, easy, and sorta works.

L&L Videos

I, like many magicians, have many magic dvds (last count, about 60). Many are from L&L, king of the 3 DVD set. And they are good DVDs, the only problem I have is, every DVD has the same audience. The average person sees maybe 3 magic shows in their life, and its of a crappy birthday magician, or at some event. These people have seen dozens of magicians, not only that, but top rate magicians. I don't know how they gathered the audience, friends, family, and employees I think, and then they get food. These people have seen more magicians, then 95% of all other people. When magicians go back for volume 4, 5 and 6...they know their names, I know their names. I would like to see more DVDs of real time conditions, real stage shows...with out the same audience. I really enjoy performance DVDs, I highly recomend the Fred Kaps DVD...

I know no one else pays attention to the audience on these DVDs, but I feel there should be a variety.

Magically,

Happy New Year

Start of a new year, start of a new blog....great.

This year, I didn't make any resolutions, but just like last year, I'm planning on focusing more on magic, career wise. Getting more gigs, and performing the tricks I want to perform, not to little kids, or old people.

Wishing you all a Magical New Year!
